The message that faith matters is increasingly accepted. Equalities legislation (Religion and Belief in the Workplace, 2003 and Equalities Act, 2006) recognises the central place of faith in the identity of many people. The inclusion of faith as a strand of identity in Equalities and Human Rights provision confirms this.
It has however become increasingly clear that meaningful engagement with this strand of identity requires a significant change in the awareness and practice of organisations and communities, both civic and religious. |

Understanding Faiths Workshops |

An introductory, whole-day, workshop looking at the place of faith in every aspect of life. No workshops are currently scheduled but we will be adversising our Summer 2009 programme in the near future. 
Backed up by census data and legislation around faith diversity, the workshop presents a practical and engaging introduction to Religious Literacy within the context of Equality, Diversity and Human Rights. |

Living Faiths events offer an opportunity to hear individual faith traditions speaking independently, creating space for dialogue alongside people of other faiths around the distinctive contributions of individual faiths towards a fuller understanding of Equalities and Human Rights and to explore how faith empowers us to serve our wider communities. Living Faiths events have friendship and dialogue at their heart and offer an opportunity to hear two faith traditions speaking independently but in harmony. |

This guide has been created by members of the Yorkshire and Humber Faiths Forum as a simple introduction to the nine faith communities represented.
